Al Maktoum International Airport Dubai "The World's Largest" Terminal

When fully operational, the terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai will be capable of accommodating up to 260 million passengers annually, making it "the world's largest" terminal.

Dubai made a significant announcement on Sunday, revealing their plans to construct a groundbreaking new terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. This ambitious project, with an estimated cost of nearly $35 billion, is set to become the largest terminal in the world. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, expressed his excitement as he shared,

"We have given the green light to the designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport and are now commencing construction of the building, investing a staggering AED 128 billion ($34.85 billion)."

Once fully operational, this state-of-the-art terminal will have the capacity to handle a remarkable 260 million passengers annually. Sheikh Mohammed proudly described it as "the world's largest capacity," surpassing even the current Dubai International Airport, which is already one of the busiest air hubs worldwide. In just ten years, the first phase of the project will be finished, ready to welcome a staggering 150 million passengers every year. Al Maktoum Airport, situated on the outskirts of the city, has been striving to capture a larger share of Dubai's air traffic since 2010, but it still has a long way to go. The ultimate goal is for this airport to take over from Dubai International Airport, which, despite its capacity to handle 120 million passengers annually, is unable to grow further due to its central position within the city.
